MINERALOGY: Calcite, which comes in dozens of colors, is a form of calcium carbonate, which is the mineral that makes up chalk. There are quite a few Calcite colors, and they all have a range of shades in the stone, and this depends on the specific minerals present in a individual stone. Calcites are found on every continent, but Blue Calcite is only found in a few places on earth. Although it’s found in abundant masses and is fairly common, a majority of specimens come from Mexico.
