MINERALOGY: Tiger Eye is a metamorphic rock formed when quartz replaces the fibrous mineral crocidolite (blue asbestos) while retaining its original fibrous structure. This process, known as pseudomorphism, creates the stone's distinctive silky chatoyancy — the shifting bands of golden light that move across the surface when rotated. It measures a 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and has a silky to vitreous luster.
