MINERALOGY: Serpentine is a group of green stones found all over the world. This grouping contains around twenty related minerals, with two different distinct types of formation, antigorite and chrysotile. Antigorite serpentine are relatively soft stones, and they are notable for their shiny green surface. This coloration is due to the presence of minerals including chromium and cobalt in the stone’s magnesium silicate base.
