MINERALOGY: Green Tourmaline, also known as Verdelite, is a variety of the mineral tourmaline — a complex boron silicate with the general formula (Ca,K,Na)(Al,Fe,Li,Mg,Mn)₃(Al,Cr,Fe,V)₆(BO₃)₃Si₆O₁₈(OH,F)₄. Its rich green color comes from traces of iron and, in some cases, chromium or vanadium. It crystallizes in the trigonal system as elongated prismatic columns with a characteristic striated surface and has a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7.5. Green Tourmaline is typically found in granite pegmatites and metamorphic schists, often alongside quartz, feldspar, and lepidolite.
