MINERALOGY: Green Amethyst, also known as Prasiolite, is a variety of quartz (SiO₂) that acquires its pale green to mint color through natural or heat-induced oxidation of iron-bearing amethyst or yellow quartz. It shares the same trigonal crystal structure as other quartz varieties, with a Mohs hardness of 7. Natural Prasiolite is extremely rare and is primarily found in a small deposit in Brazil; most commercially available material is produced by heating amethyst or citrine from specific localities.
